D1 also works great with some runes, especially with Dagaz (one soul heart every 4 rooms - better than books and Dagaz removes curses if needed). If you are going to do some devil deals which are recommended as they almost always give you significant dmg boost you'll really need these books. You can use all items that can heal you (Placenta, Charm of the Vampire, Yum Heart), or give you hearts (Satanic Bible, Book of Revelations). A lot of people recommends Lost but I wouldn't (one bad move and you are dead so take him only if you are experienced enough but you wouldn't read walkthrough then right? ).Ģ. Best characters to do this are Azazel (flying, huge dmg), Eden (two starting items, you can roll into something good here), Magdalene (ability to heal if you won't go for devil deals - best for inexperienced players).
